Dobodura, New Guinea - 1944

Dobodura, New Guinea was a place of acclimatization and theater training for the paratroopers of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. After arriving in late May 1944, the Angels set up camp around abandoned airfields at Dobodura. There they learned how to fight and survive in the Pacific's jungles and mountains. The realities of war had yet to fully set in; that would change in late November when the 511th PIR would lead the 11th Airborne into the mountains of Leyte to face the enemy for the first time.
